You vote for preselected delegates in a primary election.
Those delegates vote on which candidate their party will run in the general election. Two of the three classes of electors do NOT have to choose the "popular vote" candidate.
Come the general election your vote is to choose party selected electors.
Those electors cast their vote for the president.
Not all states require their electors to vote for the candidate that won their state's popular vote.
Many times "faithless" delegates and electors have cast their vote for a different candidate, reportedly never altering the outcome.
Everybody can have their opinion, but seems a convoluted way for your vote to count...you vote for a guy to choose a guy to be voted for by the next guy you vote for to choose the guy that will be the president.
