Sultan Mkwawa was leader of the Hehe nation in Tanzania. When Germany came to colonize them, they fought back. The Germans won, captured Mkwawa, executed him & sent his skull back
home as a trophy. Naturally, the Hehe want it back. They even convinced the British to make it a clause in
the Versailles Treaty (ending World War 1) that the
skull must be returned. Germany claimed to have
done so after the war, but the Hehe never received it.
