The man’s name was Dante, and although he couldn’t talk for whatever reason, he was a high-ranking soldier among the rebels. From what he just heard on the radio call between the Inkperial officer and their commander, there was going to be a missile strike on the base.
And everyone would die.
Dante knew that there was no way out, as Inkperial soldiers were everywhere. The only possible way to exit was…
…that portal in the middle of the room.
Dante hated himself for ever thinking of going in there, but he knew it was the only way. He put down his rocket launcher, and snuck through the ensuing firefight and onto a set of stairs. He went up the stairs, silently taking out an Inkperial sniper that was hiding up there, and snuck across the catwalks that would lead him to the room with the portal. Bullets and grenades flew around below him, and the floor was soaked with blood.
Dante soon arrived in the room, which was also being guarded. But since the guards were too busy shooting at the horrors that came out of the portal, Dante could sneak past and get in there.
He slowly crept behind the soldiers, and then pushed one into the middle of the room. The others, not comprehending what happened, tried to aim towards Dante, but got mauled by a demon instead. The demons, now having killed everyone but Dante, turned towards him.
Dante made a break for the portal, and jumped in, expecting the worst horrors he’s ever seen to wait for him on the other side.
But rather than a horrific hellscape, he was met with… a desert. Devoid of any life. There were buildings, castles, and plenty of foliage scattered about, but no people. It was like everything was abandoned.
Dante felt a feeling of dread and confusion. He was in Limbo.
