Assault weapons were banned in 1994 for ten years. There were all kinds of measures put in place before that like the National Firearms Act of 1934, and the Gun Control Act of 1968.
All of which were not only unconstitutional, but did little to nothing to slow, let alone stop gun violence. But we know it's not the point anyway, but rather to keep us helpless.
I disagree that they were unconstitutional. A little odd how they're interpreted by the ATF, and some of the regulations are kind of odd, but I think our gun rights are fairly balanced as is
