She wasnt born blind or deaf. As a young child she had scarlet fever as I recall. She became both blind and deaf because of it. I have known deaf people who were born deaf and yet could make themselves understood vocally. It is very possible to learn how to speak without hearing and is done all the time. An actress, Marlee Matlin was deaf and yet had speaking roles. Helen Keller gave many speeches where she either, read from her notes in braille or memorized what she wanted to say and just recited it. She is, indeed, testament to the untapped potential in any of us. What she accomplished took a great deal of effort but she did it. Nothing can hold us back under difficult circumstances. There are issues that are exceptions but being born poor, deaf, blind, or having any color of skin can't because we all have it in us to triumph.
