Many atheists don't want to admit it but there are a large number of us that are politically conservative and don't believe in fairy tale gods or books written by Middle Eastern goatherders 3,000 years ago to explain things they didn't understand. Far too many atheists have simply switched from worshipping a god to worshipping the state.
I can believe in lower taxes, less intrusive government, actual science rather than politically motivated science, rights as expressed in the Constitution rather than made-up rights by some politically appointed judge ... and still be an atheist.
