A lot of guys said that during Vietnam, but when the draft notice hit their mailbox the vast majority of them put on their big boy britches and wore the uniform. Those that really felt that it was wrong -- or for other strong reasons -- took off for Canada. Heck . . . the wealthy or connected just got a M.D. to sign off on a fake illness. Self-harm should not be the first resort . . . but the last.
