Five guys in my Basic Training Company were given discharges for Asthma. They got sick and interrupted training. Biden's Asthma was confirmed by M.D.s employed by the Selective Service. None-the-less, being classified 1-Y, he could have been drafted if his name or number came to the top of the list. But, thanks for displaying your ignorance. The reason people were given deferments for relatively minor medical problems is that they would be eligible for Service-Connected Compensation for life for "exacerbation of a pre-existing condition," if they served and received treatment even once.
