Five Nights at Freddy's (FNaF) is a video game series and media franchise created by Scott Cawthon. The first video game of the same name was released on August 8, 2014, and the resultant series has since gained worldwide popularity.

The main series consists of nine video games taking place in locations connected to a fictional family pizza restaurant franchise named "Freddy Fazbear's Pizza", after its mascot, the animatronic bear Freddy Fazbear. In most games, the player assumes the role of a night-time employee, who must utilize tools such as security cameras, lights, doors, and vents to defend themselves against animatronic characters who inhabit the locations and become mobile and hostile at night. The series' lore is gradually revealed through voice recordings, minigames, and Easter eggs featured throughout the games.

The franchise also includes spin-off games and other media, such as a novel trilogy and an anthology series, comprising an all-encompassing fictional universe. The franchise maintains an active fanbase, known for its production of fan art and fangames, and merchandise for the games is available internationally.

History and development
The idea for Five Nights at Freddy's stemmed from negative reaction to Scott Cawthon's previous game, the family-friendly Chipper & Sons Lumber Co. Players said that the main character (a young beaver) looked like "a scary animatronic animal", and reviewer Jim Sterling called the game "unintentionally terrifying".[1][2] Initially discouraged by the criticism, Cawthon (who had previously primarily developed Christian-oriented games) eventually used the feedback to make something intentionally scarier.[1]

Five Nights at Freddy's was released via Desura on August 8, 2014. On August 20, after it was approved by the service's crowdsourcing platform Greenlight, Five Nights at Freddy's was also released on Steam.[3] When the game was picked up by well-known YouTubers it became an internet sensation.[4]: 82 

The sequels were released on November 10, 2014, March 2, 2015, July 23, 2015, October 7, 2016, December 4, 2017, June 27, 2018, May 28, 2019, November 25, 2019, and December 16, 2021, respectively. A spin-off from the series, FNaF World, was announced in a Steam post by Cawthon in September 2015,[5] and was released in January 2016. Cawthon releases teasers for his games on his website,[6][7] and trailers on his YouTube channel.

Thsi guy called William afton and his friend Henry started a business called fredbear family diner with animatronics thay could be used as suits or robots. Afton is bad news and oof’s Henry’s daughter Charlie. Aftons oldest son Micheal shoves the youngest son Evan into fredbears mouth which kills Evan. Freddy Fazbear’s pizza opens and afton wears a yellow Bunny animatornic and lures kids away into the back room of the pizzeria and kills them. Those 5 kids possesses the animatronic band of the pizzeria. Freddy Fazbear’s Bonnie the bunny Chica chicken and Foxy the pirate fox. There’s also a golden Freddy too. Anyways the pizzeria gets shut down. Then afton opens afton robotics and opens circus baby’s pizza world. With advanced robots. Tho this ain’t modern day it’s in like 1986 now. Anyways AFTON’S middle child Elizbeth afton gets too close to the mascot circus baby(female) and a stomach claw kills her. A second Freddy Fazbear’s opened in 1987 with advanced animatronics. With facial recognition to stop afton from coming and killing kids. See he was caught but released cos he stuffed the bodies of the children into the suits. Then Jeremy fritzglade(day shift guard but in joke form he’s the scout from TF2)gets his frontal lobe lobe bitten off by toy foxy(who was torn apart and put back together by children hence the name mangle. Kids am I right?) and the place gets shut down. Micheal afton goes to circus baby’s to free Elisabeth but the Funtime animatronics(the animatronics of circus baby’s pizza world) get scooped by a machine called the scooper which destoryed animatronics and turn into a amalgamation of burnt spaghetti called Ennard. Micheal gets scooped and used as a skin suit but vomits out ennard into the sewer then vows to find his father. Now the 1985 animatronics, who turned into the withered animatronics in 1987, were refurbished and used for a third pizzeria in 1993. Micheal works there under the name mike Schmidt. However phone guy, who was working there before mike and helps us out on the first 3 games, dies and the place gets shut down and mike gets fired. Afton returns to this place with an axe and dismantles the animatronics there. But the spirits then chase him into the spring Bonnie springlock suit(the one he used to kill kids. Oh i forgot to say, Charlie possesses an animatornic called the puppet. Puppet appears in 1987). William thinks he’s won before the spring locks are set off and he dies.

SIKE! You see afton survived and lived on in the form of springtrap. In Fazbear frights Micheal works there and faces off against his father before burning the building down. Springtrap survives with damage and lost a fore arm and now is scrap trap. Circus baby was kciked out of ennard and rebuilt herself as scrap baby. Ennard goes by molten freddy and wears a Freddy mask and bow tie. And the puppet was trapped inside of lefty. Micheal and Henry lure these 4 into an underground facility under the fake pizzeria Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Place. They burn the place down and everything is over. Except before his demise, Afton made a digital clone of himself. It hacked into the vr game made by Fazbear entertainment. It then controls a security guard of Freddy Fazbear’s Mega Pizzaplex called Vanessa. Now Vanny hunts down the player in security breach. The player plays as a 10-year old boy called Gregory. Then Gregory faces off against scrap trap. Btw Glamrock freddy is a good guy and helps Gregory through out the game. After freeing Vanessa from AFTON’S control and defeating scrap trap, who goes by burn trap due to the fire, they get out of there. Oh by the way molten Freddy is back in the form of tangle. Now more animatronics are added to the amalgamation. Tangle kiddnapes Burntrap then the game ends

In ruin( a dlc to security breach) Cassie, Gregory’s friend, try’s to free Gregory from the Pizzaplex. Btw The pizza place is below the Pizzaplex. Now Cassie comes face to face with the mimic under the pizza plex. The mimic is an animatronic endo Skelton that can change its shape and size to fit into different plush suits. Now Cassie has a chase scene with the mimic where 2 endings can be claimed. The normal ending is Cassie gets betrayed by Gregory in order to stop the mimic from escaping and cuts elevator wires. The scooper ending requiring for hidden cameras is where the mimic, now in a broken lion suit, is scooped by a claw version of the scooper, killing it. What ever ending you believe is cannon Idc. That’s fnaf lore for ya.
