Kotonoha represents an evolution of its predecessor by combining its digital sound engine with analogue VCAs and 24db per octave VCFs, featuring 20-voice polyphony; 88 keys on bottom and 52 keys at top and a pitch bender on the left and a 6x6 grid of sample-based sequencer large pressure-sensitive rubber pads which can be played similarly to a keyboard, whose interface was simpler than those of competing instruments; it can be used without a studio and connected to a normal sound system, and by replacing its nontraditional series of push buttons and sliders with a control panel consisting of an LCD and a more familiar arrangement of knobs, onboard sequencer that is capable of recording filtering and wavetable changes in real time. The synth is in 10.1 surround sound. At the core of the Wave's processing unit is a Intel Atom D2550 with a Viktor LS-IIA CPU at 3Mhz, and a variety of 6502 and 68000-series support ICs, as well as MIDI support. This synth runs Linux with RTAI and SI-MIDI extensions. Samplrex - 16 bit Sampling, 5.25 inch floppy disk drives, SD card and USB 3.2 Type A, and it plays samples at 16-bit resolution (uncompressed), sequencer on board, storage of patchs and ability to load several samples into TX. The analogue modules in question include voltage-controlled oscillators, amplifiers, filters, envelope generators, noise generators, ring modulators, tone distortion, triggers and mixers, using DAHDSER (delay, attack, hold, decay, sustain, extend, release) envelope with customisable tremolo and vibrato depth. Its keyboard spans nine octaves, and the keyboard expression allows for velocity sensitivity and aftertouch.

The digital daughterboard contains YM21280 (OPS) operator chip and YM21290 (EGS) envelope generator from Yamaha DX7 with 40 sound-generating algorithms, each a different arrangement of its six sine wave operators. It also has 3 FPGASID with same algorithms as the OPS, as well as 2x YM2151 (OPM), as well as an FPGA emulating Yamaha PS-55 and built-in 250 note samples and a room for 250 more for sample synthesis, each easily operating with a switch. Hybrid mode allows for both analog and digital sound to be output and controlled simultaneously (example one of FM chips or sample with analogue). Patches can be saveed to cassette, cartridge or SD card. Its keyboard spans 12 octaves, and the keyboard expression allows for velocity sensitivity and aftertouch. It has 2,960 programs (1920 preloaded), 1,792 combos (256 preloaded), 264 drum kits (104 preloaded), 256 GM2 programs and 9 GM2 drum kits. 100 GB internal mSATA SSD, 8 GB internal RAM (4 GB available for samples), as well as over 1000 effects, including reverb (types are Hall, Room, Vocal, Cathedral and Plate) with reverb time up to 40 seconds, delay, echo, flanging, chorusing, reverse reverb, reverse echo, ducking, ring modulation, exciter, harmonizing, equalization, pitch modification, G Major and distortion (hard clipping, fuzz or soft clipping, or a combination of those) and more. You can plug guitar pedals and/or drone synth to the synth.

You can record and play back the notes, up to 4 channels are supported. There is also an extra 'ambient' channel that can be used at the same time as playing the notes, there are 100 built-in ambient sounds (rain, winter wind, traffic, nature, savana, dark synth, jungle, space, etc.) and a room for ten more. Now it just needs an onboard ai to make grammy winning music on its own, instead of forcing the user to poke random buttons and make brilliant music by accident like in the olden days.
