Alrighty then, first off it's not really dating until high school. This is more of the trial run or practice. So don't overthink it
1 ensure your crush is gay or whatever is necessary to like you.
2 make sure you are a good match, if you don't know each other well enough or have fought in the past don't try it
3 Having common interests is good,
find out what she likes
4 Get to know them a little more
5 depending on the nature of this you may more or may not want to "ask her out "

If you want to do it that way I would do it in person when they are in a good mood

do you happen to have a crush that you know well

a crush you don't know could cause problems

If you do, and they happen to be single, make sure they check the following boxes:

-Single or Polyamorous
-Kind Enough (doesn't have to be outgoing, as long as they don't put others down)
-Good judge of character (has nice enough friends)
-Loyal

If they check all of these, then they are a choice that will be less probable to break your heart.

Next, time to confess.
If you aren't head over heels in love with them, make sure to tell them that, but in a nice way, like "Just so you know, i'm not extremely into you, but i'd like to give love a try with you".
Adding stuff like your sexuality isn't a bad idea either.

-Just ask them out (Doesn't have to be a five star dinner, just ask it they would like to hang, maybe
