Here’s what I would say. Lore isn’t really the Doom franchise’s golden cow, it’s always been the gameplay, so I would say the order doesn’t matter. I think Doom Eternal is the best game for newcomers but if you want a still goated but less accessible entrance play the original iWADs for Classic Doom.

If you want to know Doom before you get into it, just recognize that story is not the main selling point, but rather the gameplay. Also some Doom games can be a challenge, so be prepared for that as well.

It really depends on the person. Do you want to watch the game build from its first release or one thats a good starting point when it comes to lore?

good starting point, I think, and if I love it i’ll start over from the first game. i play games for the lore lol.

Start with Doom 3, followed by Doom 3 Resurrection of Evil, Doom 3 Lost Missions, Ultimate DOOM I, Doom 2, and Doom 2 No Rest for The Living for the story order.
