The shit was FINALLY blown out of the cave he was hiding out in, but only AFTER bin Laden was safe and sound in Pakistan.

Politics wasn't an issue in 2001 either. Seems that the message in the OP meme was confused by conflating the War in Afghanistan with the Iraq one. YES, there were protests against that (Iraq), and YES, they were, as we now know, legit.
