i never understood why games started to be $70
Tropical Freeze (the WiiU version) is only $50, and it's probably the best $50 anyone can spend (unless you don't like platformers, which is okay)
now, the switch port IS $60, but i'm pretty sure the extra $10 is just the fee for witnessing Funky Kong's raw sexual energy

I got Slay the Spire for about $0.80 and I think it's an excellent card game (despite being hard as hell, with Ascension mode making it even more challenging)

maybe that's a regional price because the mobile version of the game is way more expensive

1. With inflation, $70 is the cheapest video games have ever been.

That’s nowhere near the cheapest video games have ever been. Some games right now are even free to play. That’s pretty dang cheap.

Video games constantly go on discount. Even going so far as 80-95% off in some cases. They also drop in price over time (unless your name is Nintendo 🖕). Most $60 games back then are around $10-20 now. And they still go on discount as well. THAT is the cheapest video games have ever been. Not $70.

2. If a game is 70 hours, then it's worth it
because it's $1 per hour.

I just got done playing Far Cry 2. I got it on Steam for $3. How many hours did I put into it? 3! Because it’s $1 an hour.

Just kidding I got 27 hours into it. So now I’m paying $1 for every NINE hours. Eat that.

Imagine if you will, Xbox Game Pass charging you $1 for every hour you played. Instead of the $17 per month. That would be horrible! If you play for 100 hours in the month, you’re paying A HUNDRED DOLLARS A MONTH!!!! Xbox would bleed subscribers.

If dollars per hour really matters that much to you, why wouldn’t you play a game that’s ENDLESS? Play Call of Duty zombies. Play indie games like Vampire Survivors, SpiderHeck, and Crab Champions. These games have no ending! You can go as far as you want with them!

3. Ok but THIS particular game is worth it.

I mostly hear this from Tears of the Kingdom fans. They’ll agree with everything I say about $70 games, but they still defend the price tag for Zelda. Why? What makes that one SO SPECIAL?

Just remember. There are so many good $10 games out there. Instead of buying ONE game, you could have bought 7 $10 games. And probably had a lot more fun than on Tears of the Kingdom.

4. Game developers need to make their money back.

Did you forget microtransactions exist? Battle passes? Especially in AAA games that cost $70.

Plus if they REALLY needed to make their money back, the games wouldn’t go on discount all the time (🖕 Nintendo).

Gaming is only as expensive as you make it. If you’re making stupid decisions and buying all new games and consoles the day they come out, no kidding you’re gonna be spending thousands upon thousands of dollars.

There are MULTIPLE cheap ways to game. Waiting for discounts. Playing indie or older games. Playing your backlog that you haven’t played yet instead of buying new games all the time. Sticking with your old console or PC. Not paying for online if you never use it.

MS Rewards Points has given me so many free games it’s insane. If you have an Xbox, MS Rewards is the way to go.

6. The more money games make, the more money they can spend making a
better game later.

This is such a blatant lie. How many games have we seen over the last couple of months alone that were broken, buggy, and incomplete? How many apologies have game developers put out over their disastrous launches? A lot of these games came from trusted and renowned developers, too. Buying their previous games didn’t make their new ones any better.

A lot of PlayStation gamers buy games to support remakes of classic PS1 games. And Sony never produces any of them.

Don’t daydream about what might come once you buy the game. Think about what you’re buying RIGHT NOW.

I've had so much fun with Tears of the Kingdom that I played it for a week straight every day

The amount of play time and things to do and places to explore, side quests to complete, amazing weapons to collect, and many others, justifies the price for me

Just simply beating the game takes around 50-60 hours

I could say the same thing with Dark Souls. I’m 80 hours into it and I’m still finding new areas to explore and bosses to fight. I’m in awe of the game’s size every time I discover a new sprawling location.

Here’s the thing. I got Dark Souls for $8.
