Most people think it's just the zoos, peds and childish quarrels, but there's so much more to the fandom than people like to talk about.

Unfortunately, it's enough that many prominant furs refuse to discuss it because of the amount of ridiculte, spitting, further drama and loss of support they'd initially receive, especially worse since the outside fandom is less active and disconnected from the inside fandom that they would take a huge initial hit without an outlet to recover.

I'm always happy to talk with folks about it, but in this case it'd be up to the mods because, as I said, what may be the heart of the fandom excludes a lot of things that furries here would probably want to hear.

(just wanted to use this quote lol; I am actually quite curious)

I would like to talk about it. I often wonder what the fandom was like back then...
(if we ever need to, I'm willing to discuss it in a memechat)

I'm always up for talking about it.
And yeah, memechat would probably work best for now, because like I said, some things might not be wanted by the mods unless I get magma's permission, and even then a lot of folks might go tribal.

That's up to interpretation, but I usually say around 2013 is when things started drastically changing and it started dropping off a cliff.

But yeah, back when it was just a bunch of quiet nerds with a shared hobby who cared more about making friends than putting on a facade, more about character stories than character escapades, and more about each others' movie and game interests than political or sexual interests.

yeah, but if you paid attention even the furs here hate political or sexual interest lol.

I've seen otherwise, and just like everywhere else so far, most of the normal furs I've talked to I've had to do in private, either because furry stuff here has to be either pro or anti furry, or because unpopular opinions (including the frustration over such obsessions) often lead to backlash, ridicule, harassment and even personal and irl threats

It's a similar scene as on FA. People have gotten banned for having particular opinions. I've even had to talk with popular artists and characters in private and keep their names anonymous from anyone else I talked to.

can I have an example of what FAis banning for?

People who openly expressed their opinions that swayed toward support of an orange man... because that had everything to do with fantasy characters and art... while simultaneously allowing users and dedicated groups to openly threaten them and advocate for physical violence.

10 years ago, furries were befriending each other based on anime and video games, but their political obsession has gotten so real that they want everyone to be an ally and follow the same beliefs as those here.

We all just wanna forget about it and go back to art and using it as an outlet away from this crap.

This is a ghost of a shadow of a furry community. Imgflip is occupied by a lot of kids just in general, but a lot of those who are confused about life and want a surrogate supportive family lean toward groups like that. That could be why they're so easily upset about anything that makes them look bad or doesn't advocate in support of them.

Most "normal" furries who still hold interest and try to express their interest can often be found outside of places like here or FA, and those who still habitate in such places often keep to themselves as to avoid drama in general, and possible ridicule if any of their opinions are seen as unfavorable by the rest of the furry tribe.
