Here's an explanation:

Traveler used some sort of "determination" to become stronger before dying, his soul was stronger but his body wasn't

In that moment and only in that moment Traveler was stronger than Collector, btw also Hee was stronger than Collector

But since his body couldn't adapt to the change, he died. Traveler was already half dead, "refusing" death only made it worse.
