Many of the greatest scientists of the 20th century were supportive of socialism although they weren't members of the communist party.

I will agree with you on this one. True scientists will share their data, without reservation, in order for it to be scrutinized, tested, & then have the data evaluated. That fits the communist model.

Interestingly, the Soviet Union in the early parts of last century went completely anti-science.
