This is from the U.S. Attorney's News Release on the case:
"Later that day, in the same area, a law enforcement officer entered the crowd to attempt to detain a rioter who assaulted another officer. As the officer moved towards the rioter, Sargent physically separated a law enforcement officer from the rioter and prevented the officer from apprehending the rioter."
This above is a description of an assault.
This story from the Associated Press appeared with similar information in dozens of sites:
"WASHINGTON (AP) — A Florida man pleaded guilty Friday to participating in the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
Anthony Sargent, 47, of St. Augustine, pleaded guilty in District of Columbia federal court to a felony count of civil disorder along with six misdemeanor charges, according to court records. He faces up to five years in prison at a Sept. 28 sentencing hearing.
Sargent was arrested in September 2021.
According to the criminal complaint, several videos show Sargent attempting to breach the north entrance to the Capitol. He's later seen exiting the building through a cloud of white smoke. Additional video footage shows Sargent twice throwing a rock-like object toward the inner doors of the entrance.
Later that day, Sargent physically separated a law enforcement officer from a rioter and prevented the officer from apprehending the person, prosecutors said."
It is not uncommon for a criminal complaint to differ from other, more complete reports. But, physically separating a cop from a perp is assault. I am sure that throwing "a rock like object" at a door is equivalent to throwing one at a window. Split hairs here if you wish. But he was caught on video doing bad stuff. None-the-less, he has pled guilty to lesser charges that could land him 5-years in prison. Maybe he and Trump will meet there.
