He's in a socialist country so all of his basic needs will be provided for free. If he's trans he'll get free reassignment surgery in North Korea, there's no racism and he'll be welcomed as a comrade.

If the treatment of past American Soldiers who defected to North Korea is any indication he's in for a nightmare. I wouldn't wish it on anyone so the truth matters. It was a foolish thing to do and the lefts demonization of capitalism and the United States may have influenced this guy. So I have empathy but the word needs to get out there that what he did was very stupid and self defeating.

I think he vandalized korean police property and ran away to avoid responsibility for his actions and found himself in North Korea.

The way that they will see it is he has no face because of his crimes even in rival South Korea and that will make his treatment even worse.
