Free???

Who pays for free stuff? If you can’t afford child care, maybe you shouldn’t be having kids

Always wanting others to pay for their life choices. Sad

Those who use childcare services would pay for the childcare services just in taxation form. In Australia, many states have pre-school or what we call kindergarten that is free, as well as free Primary (Elementary) School and free High School, and in some states like Victoria TAFE (like Technical School) is free for many courses.

So you are fine with other people having to pay your way in life.

No, you pay for it out of your tax payer money and it'd be cheaper tax payer money for an annual fee than if you were to pay for it privately.

The workers would get a higher wage, they would be looked after, they can peacefully strike if they need it, they can get safe working conditions, and they would enjoy their job more

When we say free, we mean excluding taxes. Of course taxes would increase but it wouldn't increase as much as if you were to keep daycare privatised.

According to the Australian government, child care costs have risen by 41 per cent in the last eight years. That's over 5% each year, with the average inflation rate generally being under 3% in the last 10 years.

I'm actually not for childcare, I am actually for paid parental leave. I do want people to be able to afford to have children but I believe having the child be with their parents is a lot more ideal than having a government worker raise them. I believe the actual parents of the child are important for the child's development and being in a loving family. To me having a child be raised by a government worker distances the child away from the most important people in the child's life, their family. I also see no point in becoming a parent only to have your child be raised by someone else.

Well of course babies won't be sent to daycare. Australia will extend parental leave to six months by 2026, which currently it is at 18 weeks for primary carers (most of the time mothers).

Good points though, but not just childcare should be public but we should also treat mothers to maximise their time with their babies before they're sent to childcare, so women can get to work.
