If an eye for an eye leaves the world blind, why excecute someone for a non violent offense?

Traitors are like merchants of death. But instead of selling weapons to both sides of a war, a traitor deals in words regardless of the sides.

They could award the death penalty to someone who VIOLENTLY murdered someone. But treason is a crime against your own country and could be punished with a life sentence or death.
