This is a little-known fact because everyone seems to concentrate on salt! There is much more to this but simply explained to get a faint idea about this... is as follows...
A 2020 review estimates that obesity accounts for 65 to 78 % of cases of primary hypertension (accounts for about 90–95% of all hypertension). Researchers believe that obesity leads to high blood pressure in three ways:
1) Physical compression of the kidneys (renal compression) by the surrounding fat
2) Increased sympathetic nervous system activity
3) Activation of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
Salt, on the other hand... at least high-salt diets are estimated to cause approximately 33% of cases of hypertension. I also believe that this is a gross overestimation! It is likely that the people who are reducing their foods with high salt are also reducing their sugar-rich foods at the same time!
