I've been accused of comparing apples and racoons for equating gun deaths with abortion. Granted my wife also lost her mind when I made that comparison, and she's more liberal than I am.

Apple's and raccoons makes more sense than apples and oranges since those are both fruits. Gun deaths and abortion are indeed 2 similar but different issues.

I was mistaken, it wasn't abortion deaths vs gun deaths. It was equating alcohol prohibition with the prohibition of abortion. She totally lost her shit to the point where she couldn't acknowledge any similarity whatsoever.

I'll admit the analogy was insensitive, but it stung that she wouldn't even hear out the argument...I still felt bad and shut up. It requires very unsubtle communication for me to take a hint, but I'm not deliberately irritating.

Was the comparison really that repugnant?

Ouch, sorry it sounds like you married a hard core feminist. Well the pro choice side uses the prohibition arguments all the time "people will just obtain it illegally" you can't outlaw something codified in law already yadda, yadda. So it wasn't a stretch. I think it's sad when someone with an opposing view immediately shuts down conversation.

I blocked out a lot of that convo but I do remember her being fixated on how the choice to consume alcohol is neither necessary nor desirable and that in no way shape or form should it be compared to abortion. Eh, it wasn't a hill worth dying on. Funny thing is we have numerous friends who struggle with alcoholism. Sigh
