convair b58 looked cool but it sucked as a bomber

Hate on the YB 60 all you want, but don’t think I will let you get away with insulting the stratojet and hustler.

I'm not hating on any of them actually. They all are really cool planes (in fact the B47 and B58 are often overlooked), but the B58 was notorious for poor handling and was not liked as much as other bombers, and the B47 was retired earlier on. The B52 made it the furthest and is what most people associate with "big American bombers".

Tbh at cruising altitude the top speed of the stratojet was about 15 knots above the stall speed

The B52 is the best.

Ever seen the B-36

Yeah, but it was even less reliable than the B-52. There was an incident in 1950 when a B-36 crew had to bail out due to engine failure with a nuclear bomb on the plane. Luckily, there was no plutonium, but it could’ve been very bad.

Yea but you ever seen a B-52 outclimb a MIG-21? And it wasn’t engine failure, it was a clogged intake. If you ever accuse a Pratt and Whitney Wasp Major engine of failing again I will personally beat you to a pulp with a Wright Duplex Cyclone cylinder casing

The b-2 is overrated, why’s nobody talking about the Rockwell B-1 lancer, a mach 2 capable swing wing stealth bomber with the highest bombload of any bomber ever, even more than the B-52. Or my personal favourite bomber, the convair B-36 peacemaker, designed to bring peace to anywhere in the world in the form of 4 of the largest Atomic bombs of the time in true American style. It’s 6 Pratt and Whitney R-4230 Wasp Major radial engines, combined with its 4 turbojet engines gave it such a good power to weight ratio, and this, combined with the thick wings of the B-36 meant that the largest military plane ever constructed could out climb most modern jet fighters of the era. Despite the B-36 never seeing combat, one country would find itself with the wrath of the peacemaker’s nuclear payload
