The Party that emancipated slaves from Bondage from the 1.6% of the USA population that legally owned other human beings. The Party that brought the War to the doorstep of their neighbors to gain total control of 5 routes of Transcontinental Railroad tracks built, industries and cities along each route, and "Reconstruction" of Southern State governments post war, rather than paying owners for their loss as in the UK in 1831. *See "Credit Mobilier Scandal." Financially powerful for the next 80yrs.
Conservative Republicans do not feel responsible for paying reparations for their ancestors literally fighting in a war, actually putting their lives on the line to abolish the practice of slavery. Reparations like in California, paid by and to people based upon pigmentation, rather than verifiable progeny of former USA slaves or slave owners, for both the payer and payee, may have immigrated here post 1900. Should all ethnic groups in California, be responsible for paying one ethnic group for atrocities they nor their ancestors committed? Great idea by West Coast Dem. Gov. Newsom to get current resident Ethnic Asians, East Indians, Hispanics/Latinos, Italians, Russians and Portuguese etc. to pay reparations for the USA South, for an East Coast problem of 150 years ago, inherited from England.
Daughters of the Confederacy: All DEMOCRAT Party members advocating for personal property rights, and compensation for loss of personal private property stolen and scorched by arson, like the compensation that was paid out by the United Kingdom for example, 33yrs prior when that nation abolished the practice of Slavery without fighting a Civil War.
Members were Mothers and daughters of dead Confederate Soldiers willing to fight for individual State law autonomy rather than a collective centralized power of a Federal Government and military. Fought for their southern Transcontinental Railroad Route to be funded first, of the 4 East-West Routes eventually built, and the one North-South built from San Diego to Seattle. Lost on all counts.
