South Korea could do it now, but China and the USA would become involved.
That’s why the Korean War ended in a stalemate, essentially (an armistice was signed, with the postwar boundary being the same as the prewar boundary). Technically it’s still a war with an armistice in place.

Yeah. But There is prejudice against Easterners in Germany still, and the economic development is still uneven. A re-United Korea would be far worse. North Korea relies heavily on Chinese aid and income from North Koreans working overseas (with state security forces monitoring their relatives, too prevent defections).
