Stardust was pumping her wings as fast as she could. She left the others behind in Sanctuary because Ivy had forgotten her book she stole from a dead dragon. It had a map of her home continent: Pantala, whatever in the universe that was. Of course, she couldn’t fly her normal speed incase another dragon saw her. Stardust already looked out of the ordinary here. If someone or something saw her using her anomalous abilities, it wouldn’t be good. Finally she saw two dragons up ahead, a green dragon with dashes of orange occasionally sprinkled in her wings or on her sides, and a larger pale yellowish dragon with a barb on their tail.
Hopefully she could catch up before they found who they were looking for.

Ivy had Mirage helping guide her through the desert, which seemed to have an endless supply of sand and heat. She often had to rest, which slowed their progress down. “How could anyone live in this wasteland?” She thought. She already knew the answer, of course her sandwing companion could.

“Mirage! Ivy!”

They both turned around, that weird dragon had decided to follow them. Stardust was an enigma to pretty much all of them, though she has tried to open up to them a little. Most of her stories didn’t seem believable… she had literally fallen from the sky when Stardust and Ivy first met.

The two dragons waited until Ivy caught up. She had something in her talons.

“I think you forgot something.”

Ivy realized she had left the map with her other friends.

“Oh, thank you for returning this to me. I didn’t even realize I didn’t have it.” Responded Ivy.

Stardust only nodded.

Mirage: “I thought you weren’t coming.”

Stardust: “I’m not., I’m not going to Pantala, but I do want to see the tribes from your continent.”

Ivy: “well we might be getting a tribe full, come with us, you can see my tribe.”

Ivy looked hopeful, maybe this dragon might finally decide to come out of her shell. At the same time, Ivy needed to know what was going on in her continent.

Stardust: thank you so much.

———————————————
Stardust had decided to join them. The three dragons talked, guessing why her transmission showed dragon leaving the continent.

Stardust: what are the other tribes like?

Ivy: the silkwings.. we don’t know. The hivewings I could tell you more about.

Ivy proceeded to tell her what a Hivewing was and how they behaved. Conversation after conversation rolled by, but no sign of the group they were looking for. Then something even more weird happened, the land scape began to change. And did the temperature just drop even though it was still day in the desert?

Stardust wrist comm or whatever she called it started going crazy, or at least Ivy thought it was.

Stardust: “what the,—“ she turned around, “um.. guys, we should find shelter.”

Ivy: “what do you mean we should find shelt—“

Ivy turned around as well, it looked like a massive storm was approaching. And fast too, they needed somewhere to hide immediately.

Mirage: “there is no way there is a sandstorm. It’s been clear all day, I would have noticed.”

Stardust: “it’s worse. We need a building or something, now.”

Ivy spotted some buildings, they aren’t too far, but they were small. Hopefully they could fit the three dragons. The group flew as fast as they could toward them.

They barely got inside before the storm hit, with Mirage struggling to get through the small doorway. The rest of the building seemed abandoned, but at least the doors were still working.

Mirage: “what in Pyrrhia was that?”

Stardust: “a storm that shouldn’t be possible on your planet.”

That was a radioactive supercell, Ivy and Mirage would have died in minutes from the poisoning. At least the group was safe, but now things got even more strange. The buildings that they hid in were clearly not built by any resident of Pyrrhia, dragon or scavenger as they called them. They were too technologically advanced, wires hung from the roof and electric powered lights were damaged or destroyed. They appeared to be in the garage.

Ivy: “what is all this? Did someone or something you know build this?”

Stardust: “I don’t know who built it, but we’re lucky it’s abandoned.”

Mirage: “I see some things over here, I think tools made by scavengers?”

Stardust: “don’t touch anything unless you need to get around it, I’m not sure what this place is or how it was destroyed.”

Stardust found a doorway small enough for it to be human made. So she was right, they must have been sitting in a garage. She poked her head through. There was an entire other room still connected.

Stardust: “hang on guys, I’m going to go check something out, but I need to knock this part of the wall down.”

Ivy: “just don’t knock the whole building down.”

Stardust still had her head inside the other room, just so she could judge where to take the wall apart. She drove her forked tail through the wall next to her and latched it onto the inside of the wall. She was briefly shocked by the electricity still in the wall but she absorbed it so it wasn’t much of an issue. She began slowly tugging on the wall with her tail.

Mirage: “did the ends of her tail just turn into two hooks with sharper edges?”

Ivy: “I think so, that was weird to watch.”

She carefully removed just that section of the wall, luckily the building didn’t cave in. Stardust had to remove the lower section first before anyone could get through, so she climbed back out from the human doorway and released the first section of the wall she destroyed. She tore the rest of it apart with her claws, but being more surgical when she got to the sides or when wires were involved. She hid the exposed wires inside the rest of the wall she didn’t destroy so the other dragons could climb through.

Stardust: “I think the room is big enough for us to fit inside.”

Ivy: “you seem to know what’s going on more than we do, you first.”

Stardust stepped into the room. It wasn’t exactly huge, but then again it was made by humans. Three dragons could fit in here still.

Stardust: “I think it’s safe, come in.”

One by one they all slowly crept into the room. Stardust assessed for possible dangers but there didn’t appear to be any. It was clear the structure wasn’t made by anyone in Pyrrhia.

Mirage: “what’s this? There’s a few blinking buttons.”

Stardust: “great you found the terminal. Hang on, let me access it, hopefully it will tell us where we are.”

Stardust’s wristcomm spoke again in its robotic voice. It still sounded broken up from her crash, “STORM SUBSIDING” it spoke in the common language of her universe. Dragons here called it gibberish or human. At the very least they could get the hell out of there now, but something about this building intrigued her.

Ivy: “what did it say now?”

Stardust: “it’s safe to leave the building, but I want to know why it’s here first.”

Mirage: “looks safe judging by the window.”

Stardust got access to the terminal by guessing the password. A lot of information appeared all at once. Radiation readings from outside, what WAS stored at the facility, and how much power the building had left. Apparently it was solar powered, but it didn’t actually have much electricity in the system.

Stardust re-established some of the power by adding electricity to the building using her powers.

Ivy: “you’re such a strange dragon, how did you know what to do?”

Stardust: “I’m reading what the screen is telling me, the building needs more electricity to function properly.”

Mirage: “let’s not get into a dangerous situation, we don’t know what’s in this building.”

Stardust: “let me pull up the schematics for the building real quick.”

Mirage: “I can’t read anything that’s on this.. whatever it is.”

Stardust looked at the screen, sure enough the blueprints were there.

Stardust: “there’s nothing major, just a few security camera that were already activated when we came in. I didn’t do much. Otherwise minimal security, there are supposed to be some guns on the outside but those are all destroyed. The last log says there was a battle here.”

Mirage: then let’s get out before we’re killed by whoever lives here. I don’t know what a gun is, but by the way you said it was part of a defense system or whatever you called it, it sounds like it could kill us.”

Stardust: “it can if it was operational, but it no longer is. Two more seconds.”

Finally she pulled up the location. The log said something about a Nuclear Wasteland. That sounded familiar, and wherever she was was starting to feel familiar too, besides the buildings. One thing’s for sure, this clearly wasn’t Pyrrhia, and they needed to fund their way back before another storm approaches or something worse finds them.

Stardust: “alright, let’s go. Back the way we came”

Mirage: “but the coast is west!”

Stardust: “on Pyrrhia it is, but I have no idea where we are. We need to get out of here as fast as possible.”

Mirage: “this doesn’t make any sense.”

Stardust: “it’s not making sense to me either, let’s go. Before something dangerous happens.”

The others went to the garage. She looked back at the terminal, then smashed it with her paw and drained the building’s electricity.

Ivy: “hurry up, let’s go. I have a tribe to meet.”

Stardust: “just draining the building’s electricity for my own energy. I’m ready.”

With Stardust’s advice, they flew back east as fast as they could. Eventually they found the spot where they had crossed over into another world, and the window to go back was slipping away. The change in landscape was much more obvious as this “portal” was closing. The group barely made it back through before it closed.

The rolling dunes of the sand kingdom now beneath them, they looked back and saw the buildings disappear from the face of Pyrrhia.

Mirage: “that should not be possible!”

Stardust: “no it shouldn’t have! I don’t know what happened!”

Ivy: “that was the weirdest place I’ve visited on your continent yet!”

Stardust: “wherever that was, it wasn’t Pyrrhia.”

Epilogue:

Ember and his forces have just captured another Galactic Labs stronghold. The losses were more than they should have been, over 10,000 dragons and even more of the friendly humans.

One of the soldiers found him.

“Sir, you need to see this. We found security footage of an outpost we’ve already captured.”

Ember: “I don’t need to see security footage of a couple of destroyed buildings.”

The soldier: “I think you should. We have three strange dragons on it with no clear alignment.”

Ember: “alright fine.” He yelled to the rest of his forces, “Continue directing the prisoners, executions are allowed if necessary. Someone thinks this security footage is important.” He was always angry, so the other soldiers took it lightly. This one led him into the building to where the tape was being played. There were three strange dragons standing there, moving around the garage that used to hold tanks. One had some sort of tail barb and second had green and orangish yellow scales. The third’s colors shifted from an icy blue to a soft indigo. Coincidentally his late daughter’s natural color of her scales.

He watched as the small light purple dragon destroyed the wall to the command center. He saw the dragon’s forked tail, again another natural feature that his daughter had. Then the dragon with the barb spoke, “Stardust, are you sure you know what you’re doing?”

“Yeah, just give me a second Mirage.”

It was her voice. His little Stardust was alive, though younger than she should have been. He began to cry, he was happy knowing she was safe, at least for now. He watched as the three wandered around the command center and Stardust accessing the terminal. The he watched as the dragons found out more about the outpost.

“I don’t know what a gun is but it sounds dangerous by the way you made it sound, let’s get out of here.”

“Two more seconds.”

Stardust was typing on the terminal better than any of the dragons in his army, he began to notice.

“Alright, done.”

“Let’s go Stardust, I have a tribe to meet!”

Then stardust crushed the terminal with her law and he saw electric bolts bouncing up her arm.

“One second, just draining the power from the—“ and the camera feed was gone. He began to cry more knowing that that might be the last time he would see his daughter. The other soldier try to comfort him but to no avail.

Epilogue 2:

“Sky, we’ve received multiple transmissions and distress beacons coming from the other side spatial anomaly!”

“Well that’s great, but we can’t get over there right now. Let’s take a look anyways.”

The gek opened the terminal and played one of the recordings. It seemed pretty broken up, but it sounded like Stardust.

“Argh.. come on.” There was something else, but he couldn’t understand them, and even worse was Stardust started speaking the same language. It didn’t appear to be logged so he couldn’t put it through the translator. But she suddenly started speaking the common language again. “Hey, I think it’s working now. Sky, if you can hear me, I’m ok. I caused the capital ship to crash on some planet, I destroyed the rest of it to make sure it didn’t contaminate the environment.” The transmission cut out for a second. “—on a continent called Pyrrhia. I don’t know what planet I’m on. The tech here doesn’t seem too advanced.. I’ll find my way back. Hopefully this reaches you.”

The transmission ended.

“Well, I think we know what to do. We need to find away to cross the anomaly safely.”
