They did so much more than that though. They completed a whole narrative. And there's more than one to draw from as well.
Like, combining the events of Jedi Survivor, the sequels, prequels and original... and the clone wars, I'm starting to believe that the force is an omnicient entity. It's a based God. It's tangible, it has a nature that is neutral and only reflects the one that uses it. But as I said, it also has a will when part of it becomes corrupted or abused as we see with the Sith. Palpatine was the most extreme of the sith Lords to make the force submit to his will. That's why The force manifested Rey and Ben Solo as a dyad. What would normally be a superbeing within the force, divided amongst two bodies.
The force ghosts are the fingerprint of people who lived and the force communicates to people as those ghosts. Like a replica. Kyber crystals are phyiscal manifestations of pure force energy. The Jedi form empathic bonds with their crystals. That's why Cal Kestis was mad at that one High Republic Jedi for bleeding his crystal. "What have you done?" He exclaimed.
Then look at this. Luke was saying: That force does not belong to the Jedi." I think there's more to it than that. I think that We're seeing the flaw of the Jedi and the sith both: originally, the Jed'aii were not ment to split. They embraced the darkness and the light within themselves and respected it. The Sith have embraced the darkness and have rejected selflessness and all that is virtuous as a sign of weakness, while the Jedi are the opposite. But the force is meant to exist for all and be expressed. The Jedi and the Sith both have been the jailers of the force, preventing other people from communing with it. So the force acts out and seeks to manifest in others in strong ways. The Chosen One, is just the beginning.
This is similar to this Kwizats Haderach from Dune. Paul Atreides was the catalyst for Human evolution. He was the prototype. All mankind would eventually become like him, living for eons, having God-like powers. Thousands of years later, iirc, everything gets taken from them by some other supreme being and they're offered an ultimatum: reset, with your powers but minimized, or face extinction. Mankind was marooned to one planet (not sure which.) And had to start over as the power corrupted them.
