Maybe? I don't think there was a solid definition for assault rifle back in 1915, but I can tell you this, the Chauchat was not lightweight or chambered in an intermediate cartridge. I forget whether or not it's switchable between semi-automatic and fully automatic, since for some reason I didn't watch that episode of Forgotten Weapons.
