at that point you may as well use iron armor, chainmail is weaker anyways so it should be far cheaper

Maybe use the Original Recipe to Craft 4 or more Chains instead of 1

You need 1 ingot and 2 nuggets to craft a chain, so you would need 8 ingots and 16 nuggets to make a chain chestplate. You only need 8 ingots to make an iron chestplate, but that’s better than a chain chestplate
