The point is you can't lose billions in a rounding error. Someone got caught. But that doesn't fit the narrative so it's being reported as an "oops."
In reality, the Pentagon probably didn't lose or find anything but concocted this story to cover continuing their payments to Ukraine without seeking further money from Congress.
