Context: So this person in the party has a history of doing bad things. Like killing the blacksmith for free stuff and summoning demons. But anyway, onto the story.

So the party came across a travelling merchant selling "magic items". They were magic, and he did tell us what they did. but not what we expected them to do. Such as a ring of invisibility that makes your clothes invisible and an axe of tree growth that only grows its stem. But anyway, the person in question tried to charm the merchant into giving away free stuff. And succeeded. So the merchant gave him a "ring of heaviness," an item from the dwarfs.

When he put it on, he felt a sudden strength flow through him. managed to pick up the heaviest party member with one hand. I was slightly mad about it, considering the DM gave an OP item to the chaotic, stupid party member. That guy got us kicked out of too many places. but it was cursed. He was slowly becoming fatter.

But, while all that was happening, I and the Aarakocra were messing around and testing out the weapons we bought. Yeah, the DM gave us role perception. It turns out the waggon the merchant had was a giant mimic. I found that out when I punched it and it grew a face. Thankfully, 2nd level divine smite + great hammer + savage attacker feat = A LOT OF DAMAGE.

From the DM's description, it looked like I dealt with at least a quarter of its health. Plus, the chaotic, stupid party member was slowly turning away from the ring. He tried cutting it off but failed. tried biting it off, NAT 20. Constitution checks to prevent himself from stopping swallowing, NAT 1. The whole table laughed.

Yeah, the curse started turning his stomach to stone. As the only person with healing magic at the table, he started begging me. I tried healing but failed. And as I had only bludgeoning weapons, the rouge came over to help. Whilst the rest of the party was dealing with the mimic the rogue cut him open whilst I was praying to lessen the guy's pain.

So, he was opened right up and we tried pulling the ring out of his stomach, it was entirely stone. I tried smashing it, and it has some arcane protection. So to prevent it from spreading further into him I just ripped his entire digestive tract out. The rouge stuck hi fingers up their and pulled it out and yeeted it onto the grass.

The grass turned to stone and yeah. The party was struggling with the mimic. I just stode up to it. hit it with a hammer. It died. (yes I am a min maxer, but the DM has a powerful monster in each encounter for me).

I went back to the guy without a digestive track. And spent the rest of my spell slots regrowing it back. (DM aloowed this since the previous session he allowed me to regrow a foot).

any questions?

Pretty nice. Moral of the story here: Be careful with magic items, don't overuse them or you might find out about side effects the hard way :p

this was an encounter on a road, going to somewhere away from where the DM wanted us to be
