Getting to the front page is an acheivement, let alone getting there once or a few times. Even I have a hard time getting to the front page, so it's not just you.
It's possible, you just need to have patience. Sometimes a big user can comment on an image, and some of their followers will find the image, upvote it and then your image might come up on the front page.
Or, you can "plug" your meme. What do I mean by this?
After your image has been submitted, you can take the link and send it to a few people, and they might share it around(depending on their thoughts).
That's usually how big users(eg: Iceu) get to the front page.
