Maya Kravitz and Gabriella Hirsch were two Jewish girls who loved going to the movies. One day, they decided to see a new action film that everyone was raving about. However, they were disappointed to find yet another movie with a greedy villain who had a big nose.
Gabriella said, "I can't believe I paid money to see this stupid movie." Maya added, "I can't believe anyone would spend money to make it. I hate that trope where a greedy villain has a big nose! It's so antisemitic!"
Ryan Schafer, a kid from their school, walked out of the theater and asked if they saw that movie. Maya and Gabriella explained the problematic coding they saw in the film. Ryan said it was no big deal and asked Jake Haddad if he liked it. Jake Haddad, who was also Jewish, shared Maya and Gabriella's sentiments and didn't like it either.
Maya, Gabriella, and Jake decided they wanted to do something about it. Maya, who loved writing stories, created a Jewish superhero character named Lady Crystal. Lady Crystal was a cryokinetic superhero who could control ice and snow. She was powerful, brave, and proud of her Jewish heritage.
The three of them worked on an animation of a Lady Crystal story and showed it to their school. The animation received a lot of positive feedback from their classmates, and many people were excited to see more.
Maya, Gabriella, and Jake felt like they were doing their part to combat harmful stereotypes and show the world that Jewish people could be heroes too. They were proud of their creation and hoped that Lady Crystal would inspire others to be proud of their identities and challenge harmful stereotypes in media.
