An independent class not reliant on the government is a threat to central control. Stalin persecuted the Kulaks in Ukraine because they stood up to him. Kulaks were small landowners who ran their own farms. Stalin sent soldiers to take their food away and they starved. their once-productive farms became collectives that produced much less. Stalin controlled the means of production, not the people. Communism is based on lies. In the light of the truth, communism can't survive.
