The 'truth" of the day was that Barabbas's actual name was Yeshua bar Abbas - Joshua son of the Father. Jesus's actual name was also Yeshua.
Both were arrested, tried, and convicted for sedition.

Two men. Same name. Same crime. One lived. But God died. Sure, that makes sense.

Everything, if I got that right. Even utensils used with dairy have to be washed separately from those used for other foods and in separate basins.

Oh my, and I've been feeling guilty to the point of neurotic about eating Matzos close to when I have choccy milk not because I am of the religion, but out of respect (yeah, I'm loony like that).
Then I recall an ex of mine who buttered up Matzos (although she was Reform, so not stict), and saw just the other day on Amazon what appeared to be chocolate milk covered Matzos but the ingredients weren't shown, so.....

I'm obviously not religious yet still am fussing about these things.

No, Jesus was crucified for seditition (well, one of them was. Jesus Barabbas, also convicted for the same crime, was spared). The Romans couldn't care less about the God of the Judeans.

The Pharisees may not have liked him, but the Romans weren't there to obey their orders and arrest and execute people for them.

Though I had heard that in addition to sedition, Barabbas also killed a Roman soldier, so there's that difference. Of course, who knows if that was later added...
