Years of fire suppression has lead to uncontrollable wildfires today.

In 1950 the US Forest (Cutting) Service found a bear cub that had been hurt by fire. They named it Smokey & made it the center of an anti-wildfire propaganda campaign. This did a lot of harm to the forests, which actually need fire to function properly. For example, fires keep brush away, & only great heat will cause ponderosa pines to drop their seeds.
