5. explain it to them in "simple terms"-they are new to this

Anyways start giving some subtle hints, such as sitting or talking a little bit differently, like crossing one leg tight over the other or using the gay voice. Make these hints more and more noticable, maybe dressing in more colors if that fits your persona or making some references to gay in your talk. Eventually these hints, in theory, would be so noticable that it would be impossible for them not to notice, and at that point you could just tell them outright

Alrighty, so if you know they're accepting of the community, you probably have very little to worry about, although it really comes down to whether you're comfortable or not. If someone's catching on assess how they feel about it.
