From what I’m hearing, the critics are actually right. There’s no character development. Everyone agrees with them on that.

But they think it’s not necessary for some reason. Why wouldn’t it be? Just because it’s made for kids doesn’t mean it shouldn’t have some character development. Otherwise it’s just a generic movie that’s going through the motions.

Fun fact: the people who rated the mario movie a 50 were the same people who gave cuties a 90

But seriously. It’s a completely different situation. Nobody is disagreeing with the critics here. Audience has pretty much acknowledged that the movie is flat and has no depth for characters at all outside of the beginning.
