From what I understand, though, Tie Fighters were pretty agile.
And those green lasers actually did a lot of damage compared to the red ones.
They're agile but fragile, they're glass cannons, and they are cheap and numerous but also lack life support.
There are variations of Ties through both Canon and Legends that are tougher and have life support and hyperspace. I think the individual Ties from the First Order were of higher quality.
