Before you pronounce me based, keep in mind I am still a Democratic Party supporter. Lol.
I adapted the meme from this comment (in response to Hillary Clinton recently saying that Democrats shouldn’t fight for transgender rights):
Yeah, this is a classic piece of Clintonian triangulation. And it’s passé.
The time for triangulation has passed. Triangulation delivered several decades of Democratic politics that, against the Party’s roots as a working-class party, effectively ratified Reaganism. Regardless of who was in charge, working class interests kept being sold down the river. This fostered a deep cynicism in much of the country which produced MAGA.
We are reaping the harvest of that now. Blue-collar whites have abandoned the Democratic Party in droves because they view Republicans as more aligned culturally with them, while the Democrats “won’t do jack diddly for me” economically.
Those MAGA cynics are behind the times as well. Their impressions of the Democratic Party’s economics are still rooted in Clintonism. What they haven’t yet realized is that Biden (who was himself a big “triangulator” in the 80s-90s-00s) has finally started to put progressive economics back into the core of Democratic politics, mixing Sanders/Warren style reforms with his own background as a solid pro-union guy.
This will deliver, but it will take time. Yes, we’ll have to keep winning elections to make it happen. But fight the battle on our turf, not theirs.
Transgender issues are a culture war catnip item for the Right. Don’t take the bait, don’t triangulate around it, don’t compromise human rights.
Instead, simply deliver the economic goods that have been leeched away from the working class whites under 40 years of Reaganism.
No, it’s not a quick fix. Yes, it will take time to reverse the damage that the Democratic Party’s compromise with Reaganism has done to its brand. But it’s the way to go.
