The "backlash" has nothing to do with adults wanting to marry children, but has everything to do with concerns that children under 16 could freely have children and not have to stay together as a family unit, regardless of their age. If two 16 year olds become parents and wish to marry, under the new proposed law, they couldn't get married. This literally has nothing to do with pedophile adults wanting to marry children. It's already against the law for that to happen.

That really doesn't make you look much better. Surely the resources that would have to go into supporting teenage parents would be much better spent on either contraception, or the kind of comprehensive sex ed that would prevent them from getting pregnant in the first place.
