Look up tribalism. Basically people in each group taking and holding their stances by any means necessary, slowly becoming more and more extreme and pushing everyone further and further apart while eventually reaching the point where every side is extreme but you're still forced to pick one. It's happenning everywhere.

Regardless of your opinion on furries, there's a LOT of unwarranted hate against them. While I'm NOT an activist for either side, given how much is being pushed between people nowadays, it seems like both sides look nothing like how they started but defend themselves nonetheless. In return, nobody makes their group look good.

I dunno, just me speaking my thoughts aloud after seeing anti-furry posts repeatedly. I've spoken my piece about them, but as anti-furries try to make them look more radical and vice-versa, it's turning into a full-on conflict with innocent people in the middle who could honestly care less. It's happenning in all parts of culture now, and it's making people more depressed because they no longer have outlets for merriment or entertainment.

I feel that when debating with a anti-furry : it's like only 5% of them have real reason, the rest follow and just repeat some not so true cliché and go with it.
And like that, many follow for no reason, all with false ideas, and harass alot of people that are innocent.
I know furries aren't totally innocent, they're enough drama to show that, but no, harassing random people based on their profile picture should be discouraged (maybe banned), as it's plain harassment.
And after they prove their point by saying : "Look ! They are toxic people, because they get angry fast for no reason !". While THEY get +10 notifications per week from random people that say to kill themselves...

Such is it with most things nowadays. We're socially programmed to be on top of cultural trends, and when everything has to be a civil war while people will blindly follow celebrities, 99 percent of the time it seems like they don't have a reason to hate anyone or anything. They just know that if they don't, they'll be either irrelevant or exiled from their social life.

Like you said though, they aren't totally innocent. My opinion's biased because I'm only myself, but I had overwhelmingly bad experiences in the fandom, and saw more bad than good, but I know that's not always the case. Unfortunately both furries and anti-furries run to their respective tribes to tell stories which often exaggerate things, and sometimes they'll "poke" at each other until they get a reaction to prove their point.

To me, both sides suck. There's unwarranted hate and unwarranted victimhood. Both sides contribute and those who just want to have fun or could care less get caught in the middle.
