battleships like the Bismarck proved that the era of battleships was over. they proved that they would be replaced by aircraft and smaller, lighter, faster, CHEAPER vessels. guess how many battleships are in service today.

Why would you need an expensive hunk of metal when a smaller and cheaper ones can do the same damag while requiring less crew members and being easier to protect? Naval artillery is obsolete in modern naval warfare.
