That looks like Northern California near the redwoods. That small, thorny plant in the foreground looks like a Himalayan Blackberry. Those are extremely prevalant in the Pacific to the point where they're called "Kudzu of the Northwest". If you've been to the Redwoods, the ferns in the photo also look like it.
So either this is a rather weird place in Italy, or wherever you got this image from is lying/mistaken about the origin of the image.
