There were two classes I took, where the instructors successfully drilled into me a few things.
The motorcycle safety course; they drilled in shoulder checking. I will be shoulder checking till the day I die. Both shoulders, be ready to bail off the bike if the guy behind you ain't stopping. Keep it in gear at the stop light, you may be able to also save the bike; but you first.
The gun safety course; always point in safe direction, finger off the trigger, finger outside trigger guard, only point at something you intend to shoot, be aware of the area and objects behind the target before you shoot.
