Leather armor really isn't worth making

One cow can drop two at best, and if you want full leather armor you'll need 24 of it, so you'll probably want to set up a small cow farm

And from all of that, you get the worst armor in the game. All of that just for this pathetic set of armor, with the only benefit being that you can dye it different colors

actually, mojang added a use for it. Leather boots grant immunity to powder snow
