People had food before capitalism. There is no reason outside of profit motive for the ruling class to tie basic necessities to monetary productivity.

You don't understand that there wasn't a 'before capitalism'. Capitalism exists everywhere at all times. The only difference is the currency is different. If you trade a cow for some corn, that's still capitalism the currency is the cow (or alternatively the corn). In communist countries that don't use money, the currency is power and influence. Its all an exchange of goods for a currency.
