Thats what I thought too but the leaves aren't as hard as regular magnolias.

Any luck? This flower yet?

Anyways, I see possible magnolia or a smooth edged oak like southern live oak, but when I look them up, ain't exactly a fit.

My knowledge of trees ain't much and mostly centers around wildlife gardening, so that limits that.

Try your local county extension office. Mine would be Cornell, you can try them too as the name always popped up when I used to read up on muh gardening.

You can try NYBG Plant Information, 718-817-8681, but call by noon. Or look em up online. I used to call them a lot back int the day...

I meant to tell you all this before but wanted to see if anyone identified it and now it's been 5 mos and I bumped into this as I've been going though old notifs today...
