Really, I'm just as conservative as Surly? I'm no ultra conservative here (I used to but please, change me to neocon/libertarian leaning). And Surly is so not neocon, he posts on a Pro-Trump stream called Conservatives which OP made (because he's a site mod and Pro Trump but not Right Wing enough for Reel_Polytix9).

I believe Envoy is more libertarian than what you think, and where you are is fine but maybe more libertarian but I don't know much about your economics views.

Any system needs both to survive. I do think America is tilted too far in the capitalist direction. Heck, we don’t even have paid family leave.

I heard from somewhere that Scandinavia has ridiculously high taxes and practically every service has no costs from your pocket (like free public transport, free quality education, free healthcare, etc), and Scandinavia is thriving as a socialist. Prove me wrong.

Yeah Scandinavia has high taxes, high spending, good social cohesion and happy people.

Right-wingers will say “it’s not really socialist! It’s capitalism!!!” Well, except then they turn around and label every proposal to tax and spend more as “socialist.”

In reality, every country is a mixed economy. There’s no pure socialism or pure capitalism anywhere but in theory.

What even American has a mixed economy? I thought it is as hard core capitalist as anything, and even Australia is overall a capitalist

America is one of the most hardcore capitalist major countries, but we do have things like social security, Medicare, Medicaid, welfare and jobless benefits — they’re just stingy overall

Medicaid is for poor people, Medicare is for old people, basically.

If you’re in the military you get free healthcare.

Everyone else is pretty much on their own. The majority get health insurance through their employers. Unemployed? Yup, too bad, no healthcare for you

Meanwhile in Australia, every Australian citizen gets access to Medicare but doctors now take rebates rather than free doctors appointments meaning you'd have to pay like AUD $20 to see the doctor out of pocket because there's not a lot of funding for health because of our AUD $1 trillion of debt (which is nothing compared to the US) but still the highest Australia probably ever had.
